I’m messing it up!!

Absolutely gutted. We found a lovely house that we put in an offer for and got accepted. When we originally started looking for a first home I wasn’t going on the mortgage because my credit history isn’t great. I know I’m just very irresponsible with money. Bills are paid ect but sometime miss the direct debt by a day or 2. AIP went through with both me and my husband on the mortgage. We put in a full application with Santander which has been declined due to me having 2 missed payments in January of this year on my bank statement. Broker said we passed everything else. He is now looking at Halifax. I feel as though I’ve let my husband down. He is great with money and done all our saving.
My question is - what are Halifax like as lenders are we more likely to be approved with them over santander?

@charjv1804 Is it a returned direct debit showing on the bank statement but not on the credit report or is it actually showing missed payments on the credit report as well?

If it's just on the bank statement then you should be fine with Halifax subject to passing 'credit-scoring' (nowt to do with the Experian/Equifax/TransUnion credit score) at DIP stage.

Hopefully your broker will be able to place you with an appropriate lender. Good luck!

Ensure all your direct debits are set up to come out in the day or 2 after your pay day. This can mostly be done online.

And / or use an account that advises of DDs coming out a day or 2 before they do (issues notifications and lists the transactions in your bank feed). Starling and Monzo do this, Chase does the notifications bit.

There are lenders who will be fine with this.
Hopefully it can be placed on the high street, but if not there should be little building societies or failing that, specialist lenders who will take a view.

Hey thank you. It was just after Christmas and the DD’s came out late because of the bank holidays.
  • Thanks K_S. As far as I’m aware the broker said it was on the statements we passed credit checks.

Ok great thank you. I don’t think it’s on the credit report but just on bank statement. I’ve had a look through and I have 1 more in March. Will this be an issue. I feel so silly. We were told by broker it would only be my husband on the mortgage so I just haven’t been as careful as I should.

@charjv1804 Halifax doesn't usually ask for bank statements at full app so if you've passed the DIP stage you should be fine.

DD are set by the ones that want the money they should never be "late" as they ask for the money when they want it

if you don't have the money in the account that's very different.

If you are paying the bills then they won't be on DD

If you know you have problems why have you not moved all these finances to the OH so they don't get forgoton.
