Water Filter Jug Or Not?

311 Posts

A friend of mine works at a water treatment plant and he pointed out that I'm wasting money with a water filter jug, he claimed that they filter out just chlorine which can be done for free by keeping a jar or tap water in the fridge for about a day and the chlorine dissipates apparently.
He claims that fluoride is not removed by these filters either!
I have tested his theory by keeping a jug of water in the fridge for 48 hours and it does taste better so I'm now having a think about what to do.
Anybody else thought about this?

I personally have one, as prefer the chlorine taste removed, and don't always have a day to spare if I want a glass of water. It certainly has better arguments for it than bottled water. Couple it with a Sodastream, and I have nice fizzy water too!
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
If you want the fluoride and other nasties removed then you will need to get a good reverse osmosis system for your home which will remove 98% of nasties or get a distiller which removes everything.

Bought https://filterflair.co.uk/products/aqua-prime-alabaster-box-ro6 reverse osmosis system from Filter Flair and had it installed, and our water has never tasted better.
Would definitely recommend if you're looking to improve the quality of your water
