in Cutting tax
we rent. landlord bought the house in May 1997 for £43,500
council tax banding for area is
A - up to £40,000
B - £40,000 to £52,000
C - £52,000 to £68,000
am paying council tax band C. can I challenge based on the sale price for 1997 being within band B?
nationwide calculator says price would have been £40,638 in 1991 so both prices fall within band B.
have done calculator for both next door house (both end of terraces with ours being in the middle) & they are £36,417 & £47,038 for 1991 prices.
any help appreciated. thanks

NW price calculator is inaccurate, you will need more evidence. Look at bands for other similar size and type inner terrace houses in the neighbourhood, are they B or C? There is a big gap between the 2 end terrace calculated 1991 prices, almost £10,000, are they the same size house? If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Was the house had any improvements/ extensions? if the house was sold in 1997 with band B and no improvements were done then you could challenge it based on that.
