                    Hello all,
I haven’t worked for over a year due to mental health conditions. I’m just wondering if I lost my job due to ill health but I eventually recover to some capacity. Will I be overlooked for jobs?

I know there’s help from places like Remploy and IPES. I’m just wondering if this will be the end of work for me. I used to enjoy working until I got sick.

No, it shouldn't be. However it may not be as easy as one would hope.mrfoxy said:Hello all,

As you mention there are organisations who specialise in helping people in your situation. The Richmond Fellowship, for example, may be able to help.0

It can often depend on your field of employment - and how you present your previous job loss and current situation. There are no hard and fast rules about this, and "it depends" would be appropriate as an answer. Perhaps if you explained more people could give more useful advice.0

I could lose my current job due to ill health capability. But then I may be capable in the future or working. Maybe an office role or something more suitable when I’m better.Jillanddy said:It can often depend on your field of employment - and how you present your previous job loss and current situation. Hi, as suggested in your other thread, you could contact Acas and Citizens Advice.
I'd try Acas first because they are the employment specialists. Contact details on this page - https://www.acas.org.uk/contactPlease note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. ACAS are not allowed to give advice, they are an impartial service.MalMonroe said:Hi, as suggested in your other thread, you could contact Acas and Citizens Advice.

You don’t need to go into details.
But it will depend on any number of factors; age, field of work you are in, what the particular stressors are for you, qualifications and transferable skills - as for any career change, really.
Some companies wouldn’t look at you (sorry, but that’s the reality), others are more open and some value lived experience in their particular fields. It’s not impossible but it’s too early to know at the moment going by your other thread. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1

36 and I’ve only ever worked in retail. Though I do have some college education in A Levels English, Media and I’m very good with computers. I also have a an AVCE in ICT. I’d say I’m quite good with digital stuff.0

It is strange that an organisation where the first word of its name is Advisory can't give advice - and yet on its website clearly does offer advice on employment matters.
Giving informed Advice is not partisan if it is stating the law or providing its codes of practice.
Perhaps it could be said not to provide Guidance, which is a more directive approach compared with providing straightforward Information.0

Is this due to mental health conditions or due to the sickness record? What I’ve found is that the pandemic has been problematic in receiving treatment for said conditions, which has obviously made the time off I’ve had worse. Mental Health system is overloaded.elsien said:Some companies wouldn’t look at you (sorry, but that’s the reality), others are more open and some value lived experience in their particular fields. It’s not impossible but it’s too early to know at the moment going by your other thread.0
