Removing defaults

Hi all
I have 2 defaults on my credit file one from 2015 and one from 2013, how do I go about getting these removed as now time barred? I’m worried if I contact them it will just wake them up and they’ll then start chasing me for the payment again and create another 6 years before they can be dropped off if that makes sense?
They are both from old addresses that I haven’t been at for a very long time, one my ex partners and the other where I escaped to when leaving him, any help or advice gratefully received :)

Defaults are removed from your credit record six years after the default date, if the default dates are as you say then report the issue to the credit reference agency.

All it says is when it was opened? Is there a way I can find out for sure when the default was added?

Which credit report are you looking at? The Credit Karma app shows me the default dates for each account.

On my clear score account? It shows date opened? Is that the same as date default added?

The date opened will be the date that you took out the loan, credit card or whatever the debt relates to.
The default date will normally be 3-6 monthts after the first missed payment, so could be many years after the account was opened.
You should have had a letter from the bank telling you that the accounts had defaulted which will give you the date. Otherwise it sounds as if you may wll have a while to go before they drop off, so I certainly would not be making any contact if statute barred is your aim.

  • If defaults are removed, are they hidden from you, or just creditors?

Neither, they are removed as though they were never there, but that does not happen very often, and usually only as a result of an unaffordable loan complaint, as part of the redress.
