Good luck with the building works.  It is a perfect storm conspiring against that sort of work - I know a builder who is facing tricky times having to tell his customers of price increases - some of their materials have gone up 60% in price 🙄

That said, there are three lots of works going on in our road right now, so people are cracking on.....bonne chance!

    Indeed…no fun for either side.
I know the industry is littered with ‘cowboy/rogue’ builders, but the vast majority are hard working decent people, & I know they aren’t enjoying the current turmoil any more than their customers.

    Tough times indeed 🙄

I’m sure you will make yours work….& remember, you will get the benefits of a well done job for far longer than the fiscal pain and inconvenience 2022 is throwing at you 👍

Thanks for reminding me why we decided to proceed despite the cost doubling. We have suffered two price increases despite a quote 'fixed for 8 weeks' and then a 'letter of intent' (which our architect assured us meant that the cost couldn't increase again).

I am sympathetic to the contractor's plight but it feels like we have a gun pointed at our heads. I will be mightily relieved when we have the keys back. I am sure this will just be a painful memory by this time next year.

The gun is at their too, sadly….a perfect storm of unforeseeable price increases 🙄

We have only done 2 ‘major’ our lives, in our home for the past 22 years.  Each has run into ‘challenges’ (not major financial ones), but that is all long forgotten.

Actually, one really irritating one was the bodger on the first job laying floor tiles himself instead of getting someone in.  We lived with it for 9 or 10 years, then when Extension v2 was underway, got the VERY good flooring fella to dig out and completely redo….cost us a few £k, but worth every penny now!
