So I just had a knock on the door from a man from Resolvecall about a debt I have. He was wearing a very official looking ID card that mentions him being able to get warrants etc and I panicked a little bit. He said he was here to reconnect me to head office, and asked me to call through to them while he stood at the door, I did so from my phone and he left once I was connected to an advisor and had given him their name.

Long story short, the advisor can't give me any details on the money owed except that it was owed to Arrow Global and defaulted in 2006. He can't see any payments or who the original creditor was except to say it's mail order for £705.26 and owed to Abound before Arrow Global. I've never even heard of Abound but they could be a parent company from a smaller one I owe money to.

I do have a DMP with Stepchange that has recently been cancelled due to a late payment on my part. I'm awaiting the email regarding the closure to enable me to reopen it. Of course, this means I have scoured my credit reports, know who I owe money to and how much, and I've seen no sign of this debt before today though it is entirely possible I do owe this money from back in 2006 but obviously it's so old that it's fallen off my credit report.

Anyway, he has noted that I do not know what this money is owed for, there is no paperwork for the debt, and returned it to Arrow Global and said they may get in touch in future. To my understanding this debt is statute barred if they have not had any contact / payments in over 6 years and they cannot enforce anything regarding it. Can someone clarify this please?

I'm quite surprised they have arrived regarding a debt this old and potentially unenforceable, and felt the way they went about it was quite intimidating and underhand. If I had been elderly or vulnerable I could have been in a different situation. I have had no letters / calls / emails regarding this debt yet they had my current address and mobile number so could have contacted me if they had tried.

I would be logging a complaint to both resolvecall and to Arrow. Firstly it sounds as if they have not ensured that they have the correct person, secondly they have absolutely no power to make you call anyone - in fact they have less power or authority to knock on your door than the postman. IF they call, you do not have to talk to them, and you can tell them to go away, if the creditor wants to contact you it is in writing ONLY.
It also sounds as if this is statute barred, so IF it is yours they are not going to get anything anyway.

There are numerous threads on this forum about this company.

They are not bailiffs, they are simply collectors of monies, like a grocer is a purveyor of goods, they cannot obtain warrants, there job is a self employed position, for which they are paid based on results, they most certainty do not possess warranted powers of any kind.

Never deal with these folk at the door, just say your not willing to discuss matters of business on the doorstep and politely ask them to leave.

If they are to follow fair debt collection practices, then they must write to you, when/if they do, respond with a provit letter and await the results.
