Paying off mortgage in Scotland - solicitor costs?

My bank (HSBC) has said that I need to appoint a solicitor to pay off my mortgage so that they can send them any documents held.
I hadn't realised a solicitor needed to be involved but I guess it makes sense.
I've tried to Google approximate costs but most solicitors have a "contact us for quote" options, which I'd rather not do just now, so was wondering if anyone has any recent experience or a rough idea how much this would likely cost?
