Hi,
Very long time lurker and normally use my wife's account but in difficult times.. Hey Ho!! So though this is my first post here I have been reading for a long time..
Well I wonder if anyone else may have similar issues?
We were with Peoples Energy and got shunted to British Gas, we have Gen 2 smart meters and they have updated this morning! What a surprise !! It only took BG nearly 6 months to give us our credit back from Peoples Energy but even though they can't get their web site working they manage to change the Tariff on the Smart Meter on time!!
BUT ITS WRONG!!
Email dated 03/03/22 from BG stating our new Tariff would be;
Gas - SC 27.22p/day 7.367p/kwh
Elec - SC 48.127p/day 27.865p/kwh
BUT...... Smart Meter is now showing..
Gas - SC 26.12p/day 4.04p/kwh (our old rates)
Elec - SC 54.1p/day 29.35p/kwh
The Electricity rates are neither our old rates and not even what should be our new rates!!! Standing charge gone from 25.03p/day to OMG!!! 54.1p/day......
There has to be something wrong here BUT has anyone else had the same problem???
Clearly "absolutely no point" trying to contact British Gas as you just never get through and the online thing is just a bot!!

SVR rates, I believe this is to be expected.
Your quoted new rates may have been pre April prices.1 -
What does SVR Mean??Chrysalis said:SVR rates, I believe this is to be expected.

No the new "QUOTED" rates are those stated to be FROM 1st April in the email from BG stating our new terms and conditions and prices which was sent on the 3rd March..0 -
Are you paying by DD or some other way?AlexBeebee said:The Electricity rates are neither our old rates and not even what should be our new rates!!! Standing charge gone from 25.03p/day to OMG!!! 54.1p/day......

BG have done the same thing with a friend of mine .She has the new rates on her none smart old style key meter yesterday March 31 st when she first checked and they are similar to yours at 27 p kwh electric and 53 p daily charge. This is not allowed by OFGEM to increase the new price cap tariff before April 1 st and Martins advice to credit the meter before April 1 st has certainly not worked with BG at least . Its worse because they have been getting new rates even earlier prob from when she first topped up last weekAlexBeebee said:Hi,

Standard Variable Rate.in other words its the fixed capped rate until Oct 1 st when next capped rate is calculatedAlexBeebee said:

This would probably be right if you lived in the midlands and didn't pay by direct debit (with the cheaper rates you were sent being the cheaper DD rates).AlexBeebee said:Elec - SC 54.1p/day 29.35p/kwh
I'm going by EDF's capped prices in the following link but it wouldn't be a surprise if British Gas prices were identical:

The thing to really check is what rates you're charged at when you are billed, as there certainly can be cases where smart meters have incorrect information but bills are correct.0 -
Sorry standard variable tariff which will be around the cap.
I did miss the full content of your post, and I see what you meant now.
There is regional differences to the standing charge cap, so its possible one of them is wrong, but other replies on here have stated that for billing purposes the IHD isnt used. So what shows on your actual account is whats important so I would check your account details for the current tariff you on.0 -
@Chrysalis & @Ultrasonic,
Thanks for your replies. Acronyms always catch me out lol...
We are on DD and located in Walsall, West Mids and the rates I quoted above are what BG stated we should be on from 1st April (a complete rip off!! But Hey Ho I am sure it won't impact the MP's with their £2K pay rise to compensate!).
I still can't log into our BG online account and the phone App does not want to play ball either! Though when I last checked it still said we were on "The Peoples Tariff" and it ends 30/06/2022...0 -

Though when I last checked it still said we were on "The Peoples Tariff" and it ends 30/06/2022...The tariff ends then, but it is a variable tariff so has gone up to the Ofgem limits today.The 54.1p standing charge you quote would be correct for the Midlands and paying by standard credit rather than DD..
Edit: found the right region for you so updated the post.0
