Does opening a new bank account affect your mortgage application

Looking at opening a Chase account to get 1.5% savings however I am planning to apply for mortgage this year. My credit record is spotless but presumably appyling for account will put a hard search on my record. Could this affect mortgage application or am I overthinking it? Thanks

@thegentleway Unless you were planning to apply for the mortgage in the next few weeks, I would not expect a current account credit check to have any material impact on a future application.

Don't quote me on it, but as I understand it, Chase current account apps only involve a soft-footprint credit check, like Starling.

Thanks K_S that's very helpful. Not planning to apply for mortgage immediately, haven't found a house yet, just at research stage with goal to buy this year

  • The MSE website confirms that it is a soft check, so lender won't see anything from Chase.
