New job (less pay) LGPS starting to doubt my decision

I would compare your net pay in your current job less cost of fuel for your commute to the net pay from the LGPS less commute costs for that role.
How far out is it, a 100 mile commute must be costing a small fortune, not to mention the time lost.
Now compare pension costs. If you're paying in the bare minimum in your current job it simply is not enough, you should be paying far me and the sooner the better. You'll probably be paying a bit more into the LGPS but it is still very very good value for the excellent benefits. In the long run this will save you a fortune in pension contributions.
And then it sounds like your job isn't that secure either.
Personally it feels like a no brainer. LGPS is definitely worth a try. You can always aim for a higher grade when the opportunity arises.
