Unwanted Amazon Prime Charge

I do not understand Amazon Prime. I thought Amazon was just an on-line shop, where you purchase items from a supplier, and that supplier pays Amazon a small fee for use of their site. It was only when checking my bank statements that I discovered payments made to Amazon for Prime membership for which I gave no authorization. I have spent some time contacting Amazon, who have now agreed to reimburse me with £174. I have been told that when you use the Amazon site, you must be very careful not to 'click' or fail to 'click' a box which Amazon then deems to be your agreement to allow them to charge you for a service you do not require. Please check both your Amazon and bank accounts. I will never use Amazon again.

Yes it’s a common thing. It usually says try Amazon prime for free and then you get charged.I wouldn’t be without my prime account, I listen to their music daily, watch their tv daily and love next day delivery. They have refunded you which is great.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. If you've paid £174 without noticing, you need to pay more much attention on-line and with your bank statements. Amazon are very good at refunding even when they shouldn't, but you won't be so lucky with other providers.3 -
If you accidentally click on the sign -up link for Amazon Prime it then sends you a welcome e-mail so then you realise what has happened! Last time I did that I kept it for the free month trial, ordered everything I wanted with next day delivery and cancelled membership near the end of the month.
I would have said that it was quite clear that you are getting a subscription service. Lucky that they reimbursed you.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Currently there's an offer to have a week for 99p, I sign for this whenever I want a few things, even if you miss the end of the week and pay the standare charge, if you havent used it the refund the charge.
As others have said same goes for the month trials.1 -
I ditched my prime membership a couple of years ago. I mainly watched the prime video but as the content I wanted to watch became more of buy it to watch and I was buying less and less products from them that's why I ditched them.
I'd rather pay the odd £2.99 to £4.99 if I buy anything on Amazon which works out less than £79 per year, In the two years since ditching them I've possibly paid around £35 in delivery charges compared to the £158 I would have paid for Prime membership.Someone please tell me what money is0 -

I remember when it was only £39 per year but I expect that was for delivery only then I suspect they added all the other content keeping it at £39 for a while then increased it to £79 or £7.99.Someone please tell me what money is0
