Not getting Economy 7 time's
Hi, could anyone advise me please on how to get my E7 rates reset?
I have been on E7 for years and not really paid much attention to the actual times. Now with rising costs, I am trying to use my E7 cheaper rate by using my washing machine, dishwasher, etc within that period of 7 hours.
However I noticed a few days ago when I was up late and had just set my dishwasher to come on, my meter wasn't on low, it was still on normal rate. The times I have been given by Octopus are 12:15 - 7:15, I have been trying for the past few days to see what times my cheaper rate starts and finishes.
I saw it on yesterday in the afternoon around 13:30 but the next time I looked, about 45 minutes later it was back on to normal rate. It was also on low at 1am this morning but off again at 6:00, so basically my efforts of trying to use my off peak times the past two months haven't been working in my favour.
I have an older style meter, Normal = day rate, Low = Night rate, and a light comes on to indicate which rate is on. I also have another box underneath which has a dial with day and night on it, I'm unsure I this is correct as I don't know what indicates the times.

There are many versions, but these tend to drift which can be good or bad of course
There is usually a pointer, it is on 15:00 in this case, take a look at yours for something similar and see what time it thinks it is now...A change to a smart meter might be the quickest way to get it fixed, if you do actually want it to be fixed...

Same thing happens with a lot of older digital meters .The Ampy Eco 7 electric meters are governed by its internal clock which is displayed on pushing the blue button . I ve seen Ampy meters still on night rate at 11 pm onwards . Knowing when your cheap rate/s are active is good news if they have drifted into the daytime when you can make use of it for high use shower/dryer/iron etc.MWT said:Ilovedogs said:I have an older style meter, Normal = day rate, Low = Night rate, and a light comes on to indicate which rate is on. The suppliers only have control of eco 7 meters when they are smart meters.Any advice from Octopus should be ignored about eco 7 times and you have to work it out yourself .
I ve seen 24 hr timers like the one in the photo going onto night rate at 2 pm in the afternoon. The Occupier had been waiting till after midnight to make use of the cheap rate. He was livid and made a complaint to BG . I m not sure if theres any compensation from suppliers over things like this . Scottish Power started to ask us meter readers if any Eco 7 meters were more than 2 hrs adrift but they were the only supplier bothered0 -
Mine started running about 40% slow and randomly failing to switch between day/night, that got very entertaining
Bulb spent 6 months not fixing it at the time and I only got rid of it when I moved to Octopus and got a smart meter.0
