Advanced Tickets

I’ve been trying to find cheap advanced tickets for a return journey Skipton to Newcastle. Having tried numerous dates over the next three months there don’t seem to be any significant reductions. The best I seem to find are about £40 compared to normal prices about £50. Have advanced tickets been hiked up so they really are no longer a good deal?

Picked a date at random 9am on 21 April, and trainsplit gave a fare of £16.70 in advance singles plus their fee of £5.01 because of a saving of £47.49. This is compared to the Anytime day single of £69.20. There's a round-trip fare offered of £42.95 saving £37.65. Normal return fare £79.70. So it looks to me as though there are some good fares to be had.
