When exactly does the 0% VAT on Solar come into effect?

I've just placed an order for solar panels and paid a deposit. It currently has 5% VAT on the bill (£400+). Rishi Sunak announced that the rate would reduce to zero "in April".  Does anyone know when exactly in April this will come into effect?  And/or does the VAT only become payable when the panels are actually delivered and installed (April 20th)?

I have 7 days left in which I can "cancel" the order, and wondering if I need to do that and then reorder in order to save this £400+.  Any advice please?

Possible that not all the saving will be passed onto the consumer.

I asked for mine to be resent through without the VAT yesterday afternoon ( solar and two batteries).
All the VAT has been removed, so I've paid the deposit this morning.

What's to say they just thought you wanted a non-vat invoice? Have they actually agreed to charge you zero rate VAT?
4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.

If you're referring to mine I spoke with the installer and were aware of the changes and were expecting calls.
The deposit I ended paying was reflected and reduced accordingly. The invoice shows VAT at 0%.

  • Hmm I have my install booked in a few days time, right before April and my installer is mega busy like everyone else, I do feel like I'd be messing them around at this point if I asked for the date to be pushed back, what do you guys think? It would be a saving of about £600 for me with 0% vat.

Well my saving was just over £700 so definitely worth doing. It shouldn't make any difference to your installer in regards to costs - just ask for the invoice to be dated from April if it's an issue.

Just a thought, and I may have this a bit upset down, so don't take my word for it, but there's the install date, and the commissioning date. After install, typically as they are finishing, the electrics are checked and the install is commissioned and electric certification carried out. If they are local, and don't mind popping back out, you could ask for them to 'finish' it (such as turn the isolators from off to on), and commission it later?

That's a brilliant idea! I'll give it a shot thank you.
