Fixed term contract for internal permanent candidate

Hi, A role is being advertised FTC, if an internal candidate on a permanent contract applies, what are the options for their new contract please? likely they will be wanting to keep their permanent standing.

When the FTC ends then the employee could be made redundant. The employer cannot guarantee that a suitable role will be available at that time.1

They could ASK if it would be possible to have a secondment to the FTC post, with a view to returning to their current post at the end of it, but there's no guarantee that would be acceptable to the employer. It would be more common in public sector organisations, I feel. But even then, things can change and the original role may no longer be available at the end of the FTC.Signature removed for peace of mind1
