Would this increase my £££

I'm 66 - so no NIC - and am currently employed but only until month end, after which there is a possibility of being either extended in this contract or establishing a new contract as a self employed consultant. I'm wondering which option would work best?
My thinking is:
My current employer probably won't increase my rate of pay if they extend my contract, but if I become self-employed I could ask for the rate of remuneration to increase to include what they also pay me in Employer NIC.
By being self employed I can reduce and delay my tax liabilities to year end (or beyond).

Gave I got this right - or am I missing something?

Many thanks
