I’ve been in debt on and off (admittedly more on than off!) since I was 18. I’ve used overdrafts and credit cards to deal with emergencies and never found myself to be able to get over one before another rears it’s head. I appreciate now the benefit of an emergency fund!
Alongside the debt, the other issues I need to address are my diet/weight and my chaotic house. I’m also very aware the impact all of these have upon my mental health and vice versa.
I’m going to aim to take 3 baby steps a day to sort each of the ‘problems’ and will use this diary to document them no matter how small! Time to celebrate the small wins 😊

That sounds like a good plan. You will find that good meal planning will benefit your wallet, weight and mental health. As you tackle one thing others will fall into place. Good luck on your journey.1

Congratulations on taking the first steps on your debt free journey - acknowledging where you are and that you want to change is a MASSIVE thing so really well done for that.Like you I had been in debt since I was 18 when I started my diary. It’s been a big learning curve but there is so much support on these boards especially and the whole MSE site - you can do it!0

I just wanted to say I love this approach - particularly as at the moment I feel like I am having a "middle of the month slump" where "nothing is happening". But I have to remember all the small steps that will help me get to my goal! Good luck with your journey!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £6,450.00
Total paid off - £9,150.89 (58% paid off)0 -
It’s been lovely to see a bit of sunshine over the last couple of days - it finally feels like spring is beginning to arrive. The weekend seems to have been and gone in the blink of an eye, although managed to spend a lot of time outdoors making the most of the weather.
Babysteps taken…
Finances
1. Paid off balance deficit on electricity account to try and cushion the inevitable blow when my fixed rate ends.
2. Free morning out with DS at the park.
3. Gift set for pressie stash paid for with boots points.
Health
1. 4 mile run
2. Took DS out on his bike (I was on foot)
3. Clutching at straws, but managed to resist McDonalds and had lunch before we went out.
Organisation
1. Finally found the bottom of the washing basket
2. School uniform for week prepped.3. Convinced DS to sort through his cuddly toys3 -
