Isn't it all a bit pointless??
If you do no washing.. you STILL have to wash and dry those dirty clothes.. your fridge and freezer and other 'constants' still have to be on.. so it would only be kettles, showers, the pc and a few lights you'd go without.. I really couldn't be bothered with the faff of candles and gas hobs when I have a quick electric kettle and low energy bulbs..
there comes a point where I feel it is doing something because you want to.. for a laugh or for an experience and having managed through loads of prolonged power cuts it isn't something I could or would put myself through.
the environmental affect of discarded batteries is WAY worse than having the light on for a few hours..
and all the gas or oil that will be burned to boil water for a cuppa is using irreplaceable fuel whereas electricity can be sourced in other ways.. wind, solar etc
Just seems a bit daft to me.. or maybe I am missing a few details!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
yep, pigpen, maybe you're right - but everyone's motivations are different, and personally I could do with the experience of feeling grateful for what I have got in life and not just take it all for granted.
saving a few pennies doing it is great, an occasional languid evening with wind-up radio (not batteries) dressed like an Inuit is great too. the main thing, for me, is though remebering to have that 'attitude of gratitude'. I need that, otherwise I get all bogged down with the daily grind, wanting to buy stuff I don't bliddy need and ain't got room for.
horses for courses of course - and I've also learnt a lot from the collective thread wisdom. I also believe it may give me some valuable quiet thinking time.0 -

I might have a go at this, just to see what I'm capable of doing without.
