My husband is a HGV driver. And recently we moved house, and then he had to have the usual medical. He passed medical. sent off license, this was about 7/8 weeks ago. Now he can't work until DVLA send back his license with the new address on. He rang them up and finally got to speak to someone at DVLA and even they couldn't understand the delay. As at moment he was working with agency they haven't got the insurance cover until license comes back, unlike working for companies. With no income, how do we pay bills etc? Can we claim against DVLA?

Why can't he work until the licence with the new address is received? See https://www.gov.uk/change-address-driving-licence which confirms he can still drive while waiting for the new one. Why is the agency insisting he can't work for them? Could he work for himself?aandrea said:My husband is a HGV driver. And recently we moved house, and then he had to have the usual medical. Under section 88 he could work, but for insurance he can't as Insurance won't cover you. He can still drive his car, but not HGV's.Marcon said:

Could he work short term as a courier for someone like Hermes, which would only need him to drive his car (assuming his insurance would cover him for that)?Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0
