Single Person Discount Rejected

Options
I've recently moved into a flat in which I am the only occupant, and I have just been informed by the council that my application for the Single person discount has been rejected as apparently my income is too high.

I thought that the single person discount wasn't affected by income, and even still, I don't earn a crazy amount (slightly above the average UK salary).

Is anyone able to shed any light on this, and does the single person discount policy vary from council to council?

Single person discount is not affected by income.  Are you sure you didn't apply for council tax reduction ? You need to clarify with them.

You certainly should be eligible whatever your income.

I agree with with @molerat that you may have applied for CTR in error.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Hi, yes, I also agree with what others have said.

There's some good info here from Turn2Us -

    https://www.turn2us.org.uk/Benefit-guides/Council-Tax-Discounts/Single-Person-Discount

Your income doesn't affect your right to Single Person's discount. You need to contact your council again.
