Opting back in when long term sick

I was asked to opt out when employed.  For the last 20 years I have had a disability and claiming PIP and ESA.  My old employer has since closed.  I would like to opt back in but as I no longer have an employer who should I contact please

    Opt out of what, exactly?
If you can tell us what you'd like to opt back in to, we can tell you if it's possible and how to do it.

Sounds as if you might have chosen to contract out of the State Additional Pension? If so, contracting out ended years ago so you don't need to take any action - and indeed as you are not employed, there is no action you could/should take if this is what you're referring to.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

There is nothing to opt back in to, the second state pension (which replaced SERPS in 2002) was ended in April 2016.
