Maybe the one of the most useful to be a professional programmer but I would imagine that it's a hard one to start with if you have no coding experience at all. I'm only a hobbyist programmer now if if I want to hack something together then I can do it in fairly competent Python - or being an 80s kid in Visual Basic (you'd struggle to find any job needing VB now) but I'd struggle to even get started in Java
I found this list of the languages with the most jobs: https://www.itjobswatch.co.uk/default.aspx?ql=&ll=&id=900&p=6&e=5&page=1&sortby=0&orderby=0
SQL is top but I would consider that to be more of a general IT skill than a language. PL-SQL is a different beast but everyone should know some basic SQL as there are essentially only 4 commands. Otherwise, Python, Java, Javascript and C# are at the top which feels about right.
Of course there are some advantages of knowing a less common language such as there will be less completion for the jobs which do exist.

If it's an argument against the idea that VB is one of the better languages to learn, nobody ever made that argument.0
