Pension increase means having to pay tax.

I live in Scotland where our income tax is different to the rest of the UK.

My husband  of 75 years old, (I am 73), just got his new tax allowance of £12570 and the total of his work pensions and OAP is £12,714.20 for the next year
The April increase in his OAP is accounted for but not any works pensions.

My pension total will be considerably less, £9450, so I will not pay any tax.

Is there any way to use my tax allowance so that he will not pay any tax. I thing it will be about £28. (every little helps)

Will claiming the married persons tax allowance be of any use because our incomes are pensions?

Yes you can using the link below. Note - you must make the claim, not your husband. Also please use this free service rather than the increasing number of ‘agents’ who will process the same claim for you with the result that your £28 will all go to them.

The government has said the Personal Allowance will remain the same for a few years but the State Pension will increase by at least 2.5%/year so although it won't be a huge benefit this year (it should save £27.36) it will save him more each year in the future as his taxable income gets increasingly more than his Personal Allowance.
