Council tax appeal example

Hi everyone
I have my appeal coming up and I was looking for any successful cases I could use as an example.
We are a semi detached property in a road in band E. all other semis are band D.

Valuation Tribunals will only look at successful appeals if they are of dwellings near to and of the same or similar type as the appeal dwelling/

Thanks yes aware of that. But was looking for examples similar to me so I can demonstrate that other similar appeals were successful

Valuation Tribunals do not work like Law Courts in respect of precedents unless it is a point of law which a banding appeal is not.


I'm ex VOA and used to deal with CT appeals. At one appeal hearing I recall the Tribunal Chairman saying to a CT payer that the decision of another VT did not create a precedent which they should follow. VTs are well aware of all aspects of banding appeals and your situation is hardly unique. The VT may well regard your attempt to show that a reduction from Band E to D is possible as an insult to their intelligence. The VOA will say that being from another area it has no relevance.


Obviously you can use successful appeals of similar dwellings from Band E to D from the same geographical area as your home, but you can't cast your net across the whole of the country.
