NHS Pay - help with return after degree

Hi,

I did 2 years continuous service full time in my local NHS trust as a band 3 before deciding I wanted to take some time out and do my degree.

I have now got a band 5 role which I will be starting soon and wondered where I stand in regards to pay?

As I have previously done 2 years full time service in the NHS can I assume I will be on the 2-4 year pay point for a band 5? Or is not how it works?

Thanks in advance

:)

If that was how it worked, someone staying employed and gaining promotions from one band to another every couple of years would eventually be appointed near the top of a band with no experience of that level.
So expect to receive the pay at the first spinal point of Band 5.

That is not how it works. You will start at the bottom of band 5 and move through the progression points according to what the current guidelines are.

You may be thinking about continuous NHS employment when talking about previous service as this can affect the amount of annual leave you are entitled to. You should have access to ESR which will state NHS start date and what pay point you are on.
