Hi. I have been quoted £1520 installed. Worth mentioning that the install couldn't be easier: ground floor, indoor and outdoor units on the same external wall, power nearby.

It should be installed on Saturday. I'll let you know how it goes.

I will be using it as much to reduce carbon emissions as cost reductions i.e. 20-25% of the carbon emissions not including that some of it will be generated by solar.

As you say it would be interesting to see the real world efficienc though.

Thanks! Let us know how it goes and who did it too if that is OK.
So the AC was installed today. I couldn't be more impressed with the service and unit. The guy who installed it, Ryan, works for an AC company during the week but is working for himself at the weekends.

I was impressed that he put the external pipework in the ducting which looks very tidy.

He is based in Farnborough (we are in Southampton). Photos below. Feel free to message me if you want his contact details.

    Looks good!

    Hi there!

Several months on and what are your thoughts?

I'm just investigating this and it seems the ideal solution for us here.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi. So far very impressed indeed

In the summer it was a god send in the heat wave. We were using around 5Kwh on the hottest days to chill the whole of the downstairs (all from solar)

We have not turned the central heating on since it was installed in March and are just used the heat pump with the doors open.

Even during the latest cold snap, it has only been using around 4kwh of electricity a day, mainly from cheap solar that would otherwise be exported. It certainly seems that the claimed seasonal efficiency of around 520% are stacking up.

Since we had it installed. It is now VAT free for air-to-air installs. My parents and sister have also installed exactly the same unit (with the same installer).

My current inclination is to get a heat pump hot water tank installed, possibly one more air con unit and go gas free but I want to see out the winter first.

Assuming 85% efficiency for a gas boiler. Then it is around 6x more efficient (and less carbon emissions) than gas heating. On average we are paying around 25p per Kwh (half on solar export, half on standard tariff). So it seems to be less than half the price of heating with gas.
