Brought Saltanas from coop think there contaminated advice needed?

Options
I apologize in advance if I'm posting this in wrong place.

I brought a bag of saltanas from coop yesterday,  on opening last night to give my son some there was a very very strong chemical smell, not like saltanas should smell like.
I thought it might be because they had been sealed in bag and needed to air, I waited a bit then
I tasted one and spat it straight back out, it tasted horrible and  chemically and definitely not what saltanas should be taste like, it was discusting.

I thought maybe I was going mad so got my husband who is a chef to look at them, and he agreed there not right and definitely smell and taste like they have been contaminated with a chemical.

There is definitely something not right with them, I'm concerned that they have been contaminated in the manufacturing process and some kind of chemical has got on them.

I've contacted coop and they are trying to fob me off with a voucher and are saying they are probably just off.

I don't care about the money, I didn't contact them because I wanted a refund, I contacted coop as am concerned that people are going to get sick eating them.

But coop don't want to know and won't investigate, I've told them I still have bag of saltanas if they want to take for testing but they don't care.

I thought that it's rare for dried fruit to go off and if saltanas are off don't they smell sour and taste tasteless as loose there flavour.

These don't smell sour they smell of chemicals and taste of chemicals.

Has any one any experience with off saltanas, do they smell and taste chemically.

Pack says saltanas are from Turkey, if you do a Google search of saltanas from Turkey, Turkey have got in trouble for having high levels of pesticides that are illegal in Europe in there saltanas. So how come coop still get saltanas from Turkey.

Is there any where or any one else I can contact about this. Or should I just leave it and bin them.

Am I being paranoid.

Any advice much appreciated
Thanks in be advance

Usually retailers won't investigate a one-off complaint - however if they receive a number of complaints from various customers about the same product, it's usually then that they'll sit up and take notice, and investigate more thoroughly. You've done all you can for the moment. You've reported it - if others also report it - then they'll likely instigate an internal check, followed by a recall if necessary. Take the voucher - and buy a different brand in future. If you really want to get their attention - post them back to their head office.

You could try an online search using the batch number if there is one, usually some sort of code so the products source is traceable
you never now there may have been a problem reported
