Remortgage legal fees - what is typical?

I am looking to remortgage from HSBC to Nationwide. With the remortgage my ex's name will be removed from the deeds.

Nationwide offer fee legal fees (up to £500) and I know I will have to pay extra for the transfer of the deeds into my name only.

Out of curiosity I asked a local conveyancing firm for a quote to do the above - it has come in at just over £1.2k! £650 plus VAT of that is just the legal fees, the rest is disbursements and supplements.

Is this a typical amount for legal fees for a remortgage? It seems high to me.

TIA

It depends. If you want a solicitor to do it, that is about right.
If you go for a conveyancing firm, you can normally get it for under £500. I think the lowest our charge is £249 up to £699.
The difference in cost is pretty much in part our kick back and also the higher figures will have more firms available.

What we typically do is do £500 chashback and £299 cases for our clients. Thats because the firm that kicks in at £299 is better than the only firm which does £249 in our experience. We get (I think) £30-40, client gets £200 everyone wins.
