Do you know the fraudster? Or was it someone completely unrelated?
I'm really sorry you are in this position.
I had an ex do similar, it resulted in a court case and was a horrible time, so you do have my sympathies for what someone is putting you through, and what you are feeling.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

I already spoke to StepChange and they basically spoke to the bank and loan companies. The debts owed were just extended over a longer period.

Even if I go to civil court, I am not guaranteed any payment back from the fraudster.
I'm not normally a fan of going to the media, but this doesn't sound right (although I appreciate there are scant facts on which to base that observation).

If the bank won't refund and you haven't been negligent (or even if you have been, if there are extenuating circumstances such as your impaired vision), have you considered contacting someone like Tony Hetherington who is excellent in terms of good sense and getting results. Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!
  • I was involved in romance fraud- from my perspective I am a lonely disabled person and so I thought I had found love when someone had the same interests, same values etc. A simple human longing to be loved.
Now I know to be wary of the people who you trust.

Fraudsters can spin any story they want- for me the story was their grandma died, their dad committed suicide, mother died of sepsis, they cannot afford foot or utilities or shelter.

Read more about it, learn from my mistakes.
