Your tax code would also be a give away to the MOD - and I'd wager that payroll checks are done periodically to identify possible undeclared double jobbers (especially somewhere like the MOD, with security concerns).
Not necessarily. If the CS job is recorded at HMRC as the OP's main job, tax code won't give anything away. As I said before, the factory job tax code might indicate other employment but not this one.
Signature removed for peace of mind

Maritime health and safety is very different from that on land. Issues with alcohol or other recreational drugs are viewed extremely seriously and the bar for gross misconduct dismissal is set accordingly. My nephew is head of safety on a cruise liner after 22 years in the Royal Navy and only recently dismissed two long-serving officers for being under the influence at sea. They were not on duty at the time but were still dismissed and actually put off the ship at the next port.

If OP has been in a similar position I wouldn't be as optimistic as he seems to be about appealing his dismissal. Maritime law trumps everything while at sea so if OP is in breach, he would have been correctly dismissed. That's before factoring in the breakdown of the employer/employee trust relationship by OP concealing his second job.

I currently have 1 employer. My factory job.

I will be appealing to get my CS job back, but I guess I shouldn't be optimistic as has been suggested. Currently I am not employed by them any longer and I received my last wage slip from them last week.

If they give me my job back I guess I should ask permission to have the factory job then.

    "mental health issues and alcoholism"

Was this disclosed as part of your case statement at the original hearing? I have no involvement with CS however I have significant experience with other organisations in public service and I would be very surprised if the CS did not have policies relating to MH & a that you could have (self)referred onto, and there may have been option to suspend your disciplinary hearing to allow participation with occupational health input?

If you don't work for them then
    a. you aren't moonlighting
    b. They don't care about any 2nd job you have

I think you need to carefully think about whether you should return to your previous role, given the issues that led to the disciplinary, or whether to support your treatment and recovery you need to have a different type of role - i.e. one that does not involve you going to sea.

It wasn't to do with the role. The role just meant that I couldn't get to counseling appointments. My mental health issues are a result of personal issues. Mainly family.

Was the employer aware of this? If so was it on the table at the hearing?

Yes it was but I didn't explain it very well. That's mainly why I decided to appeal.
