Official MoneySavingExpert.com Note:
Yates' website is currently under construction but its pub finder is still available. Just click on the drop down menu to find your town. Prices differ depending on where you live but, for example a Christmas Dinner in Yates Milton Keynes costs £6.45. The dinner's available at certain times in the week so double check with your local Yates when it's available before making a specific trip

Just had a yummy and filling xmas dinner at yates! Don't turn your nose up we were plesantly suprised.
We had turkey with all the trimming and a huge jug of gravy, then sticky hot chocolate muffin (huge) with ice-cream but other desserts on offer.
Pot of tea 99p
bottle of house red £5.95.
Quite a bargain and nice tasty food too.
Also takes clubcard coupons if you have any covereted to deals kicking around.
The price may vary according to where you live but I'm East Anglia.

I see on the Tesco Deal website it says Please note: Whilst Deals Tokens are accepted for standard menus in December, Tokens CANNOT be used in conjunction with any promotional or Christmas party menus.
So it seems like there could be a problem with using Deals vouchers for the Xmas dinner.
They also say Token(s) cannot be used to purchase any drinks.

Hi
Thanks, I am in east anglia too, so might give it a go.
Is it every day or just weekend?

Went to the Shrewsbury Yate's a few days ago.
I ordered a worthingtons and a cafe late but they were out of worthingtons and had no hot drinks at all as the drinks machine was broken.
Ordered the beef roast but was told they had none.
Ordered a burger bonanza. Sales blurb said something like "image going crazy with all the toppings you can think of and then add some more" showed a picture of a burger that looked like the leaning tower of piza. Mine came with no sauce, a bit of lettuce quite brown at the edges and a bit of tomato - no extra toppings of any kind. Burger was the worst tasting meat I have ever tasted - couldn't eat it.
Other half ordered a fry up. Bacon seemed to have been boiled and tasted of nothing at all. Mushrooms were burnt and tasted really nasty, they were floating in a sea of saturated fat the like of which I have not seen for many years. Eggs were rock hard.
Other half ordered apple pie and custard - later it turned out they had no custard. Other half said "I'll have vanilla ice cream then" - they had no vanilla ice cream - "have you got any cream" said my other half, "hang on I'll go and check....no only chocolate ice cream."
Asked me if I still wanted my sticky toffee pudding - I said "yes", I quite like chocolate ice cream but that was irrelevant as even though they had it they never put any on my plate. Just a lone sticky toffee pudding no cream, ice cream, chocolate ice cream or anything - it was badly burnt too. It tasted like it had been microwaved for several minutes too long and left a nasty taste in our mouths -well worth £2.95 I don't think.
I paid with tesco deal vouchers and an extra £2 cash, deserts were £2.95. The guy told us he would give us the money back for the apple pie as we cancelled it due to no custard / cream / ice cream but when it came to it he refused saying "you don't get change from tesco vouchers." He wouldn't even give us the £2 cash we paid until we dug our heals in, even though we had not had a £2.95 desert we had ordered.
Never had a worse meal in my life by a huge margin everything about it was bad but I wasn't angry I just couldn't believe it at the time. Everything tasted nasty apart from the baked beans. They didn't have most of what we asked for and the service was appauling / the guy lied / tried to cons us out of money.
My advice would be to get tesco vouchers for some other chain, these people haven't got a clue and I'm really easy to please.
I used some tesco deals vouchers at a slug and lettuce the other day and the food and service there were superb.
I never complain about anything but I'm going to complain to head office about this - it was a joke.0 -
well yates Ipswich is great never run out of anything for us and they take the coupons off the whole bill. Yes the xmas dinner is all week and it's gorgeous!0

Burnley Yates': Sometimes everything comes out of the kitchen consistently good and other times it all seems to come out of the kitchen consistently bad, so I reckon it just depends who's doing the cooking that day. The service is usually OK though and the way that I look at it is that I'm getting a 75% discount with my clubcard deal vouchers, so for that price, I'm happy to pay even for the low quality food.
Haymish... Having almost no stock left is inexcusable. Make sure you write to HO and not the pub itself. Everything is computerised so the manager must be really incompetant to have run out of so much stock.0 -
It sounds like you had a disastrous time haymishpupkin2. We went there last year while we were on holiday and we had so much food we struggled to eat it (and we are pigs!). It was a really lovely meal. We have been to several Yates because of the Tesco voucher scheme and this was one of the best meals we have had at a Yates. I can only assume that they have changed staff. It sounds like they won't be in business in Shrewsbury much longer if they carry on like that.
We had an awful meal at our local Smith and Jones last week. I won't go into what was wrong with it but put it this way we had to call in a fish and chip shop on the way home to get some extra portions of chips to eat in front of the fire. vbmenu_register("postmenu_7222843", true);0 -
We had another lovely Xmas dinner at yates!! cost £4.95, £5.95 for a bottle of Merlot and £2 for pots of tea. We were completely full up and it was miles better than an expensive restaurant we tried for 4 times the price!
Also go before 12 for coffee and a muffin to revive you from xmas shopping. Recommended.0 -

i've always found Yates to be real hit and miss when it comes to food, but you get what you pay for - it's so cheap that you can't expect miracles! having said that, i've had some real horrors there before! :eek:0

Yates Chester - Long queue, 1 bloke taking orders, gave up and walked out
Yates Newport - Just the opposite, several staff, NO customers, food grotty
Slug and Lettuce Cardiff - Lovely atmosphere, but the food was badly presented and tasteless.
Slug and Lettuce Chester - Just about the best meal we have ever had for the money, atmosphere was buzzing, organisation second to none, and, they were happy to accept our Tesco vouchers for the whole meal, including the wine - 10 out of 10!0
