17" Dell notebook for £350 delivered

Apologies if this has been posted before.
http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b=&c=uk&cs=any&l=en&oc=n1217001&s=bsd&sbc=rf_spider&m_30=115258&dgc=AF&cid=5212&lid=122756

but it is remarkable.

Intel® Celeron® Processor 550 (2.00 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 1 MB L2-cache)
Windows Vista® Home Basic
LCD 17.0" Widescreen WXGA+ (1440x900) TFT Display
1024MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x512]
120GB (5400rpm) SATA
8X DVD+/-RW Drive

Shame about it only being available with Vista.
Probably needs more "wellie".
So it might be with worth the extra 40 quid for the dual core processor.

Thats going to struggle with Vista. Its needs 2gb ram and dual core 2 or equiavelant and even then Vista may struggle. Yes really shame it has Vista better with XP

Delivery for Christmas is unlikely now.

Contact Dell and ask about christmas delivery - these cheap machines are usually stockpiled so ship within a week ;)

Not true they are all built to order. Mine was re-ordered yesterday and is on a priority build following ordering system problems and will be delivered next Thursday. I was told Christmas delivery is unlikely on a "standard" build.

I think this is wrong. It has the latest Celeron which is based on a Dual Core processor and enough RAM for Home basic. I've seen Vista Home Basic running fine on pcs with worse processors than this.

Interestingly you can bump the processor up to a Dual Core T5270 for £40 extra.

You are correct. This machine is well above the minimum specs for Home Basic and will work absolutely fine. ;)
