I am going off memory here ( I did some PPI complaint work for Barclays 3-4 years ago)
If a response is not going to be provided within the 8 weeks then a holding letter needs to be issued to advise the customer of this, within the letter it should give a date by which a response is expected to be provided. - this is usually around day 25
If the 8 weeks has passed and no response has been given of any sort and there has been no communication other than the acknowledgement then you are well within your rights to send to the FOS as the correct processes have not been followed.
as stated above there are huge backlogs so I would maybe wait till about 12 weeks if it was me then you cant really be accused of being unfair or unreasonable1 -
Thanks for all the help and advice guys; the account has now disappeared from my credit score reports, although I've not heard a peep from Barclays themselves, which I think is a little shabby.“Procrastination is my middle name....well it would be if I could be ar**d to contact Deed Poll."0

Sadly that seems right. Also belated condolences for your loss.In their eyes, there was an error, they fixed it, there is no error now. That they haven't told you means that step probably isn't in their flowchart for problem solving.May you find your sister soon Helli.
Sleep well.1
