Where to buy Star Galaxy Granite

Hi
I am trying to find a 20-30mm thick piece of granite to use as a hearth for a solid fuel fire. I have found two companies who have quoted £260 and £490 for the same size piece. As the figures drastically differ I wanted to locate a few more companies to provide quotes but I'm struggling to find someone who stocks "Star Galaxy", which just happens to be the most expensive; typical!
We live in York and the cheaper quote of the two was from Cheshire so it's a bit of treck to collect it but better than paying nearly double locally.
Can anybody recommend a supplier
Thank you

hi,
i don't know your area but i found the local stonemasons very reasonble.0 -
Most places that sell granite will sell star galaxy although it may have a different name.
I bought my granite from http://www.ukaffordablegranite.com/0 -
I bought some galaxy black granite tiles from this place http://www.domostone.com/products_granite_tiles.html - don't know whether they are the "star" version???? But they were very reasonable and look great on my kitchen floor! It was delivered to my door - give them a ring and see what they can do - they have other stuff as well as whats on their website.0

www.mistermarble.co.uk are based in Manchester and did our worktops at a very, very good price. I seem to remember that this granite was one of the ones they offered. Might be worth a try.0

i know this is not to do with the original post, but i also bought floor tiles from domostone, can i ask if you used any sealer or if you use any special cleaner, because mine (unlike my worktops) are really difficult to keep looking sparkly?0 -

Nope - I was told they didn't need pre-sealing. The only way I have found of getting them really shiny is getting on my hands and knees with a duster! But from standing you cannot see any marks anyway cos' of the sparkly flecks in the tiles - hides bits and dust really well!!! :rotfl: Are yours completely black? I would imagine they would be a nightmare to clean.
Theres a company that produces floor cleaner that we used to use on our old slate floor - the products were really good! This stuff: http://www.toppstiles.co.uk/promotion/promotion/subN/polish.html - you can usually get it from independent DIY or tile shops (just looked - Amazon do it too!)0 -
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. The Granite House in Bicester supply lots of the star galaxy tiles to shops in the UK. They import hundreds of tonnes of granite.
They will sell directly to the end user at the same trade prices! Currently star galaxy tiles from them are £22.60+VAT per m2.
Hope that helps.0 -
Have you had a look on ebay? http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=star+galaxy+granite&_sacat=See-All-Categories0

I have been in the stone trade for over ten years working alot with Star Galaxy Granite. It is a great Granite for worktop purposes, it is highly dense and pretty non porous.
we have Star galaxy on our website and also on display at our showroom
I am happy to advise people on granite./quartz for their worktops, quite often the cheapest price isnt the best way to go with stone due to the workmanship involved in not just manufacturing it but also installing it.
Kind regards
Daniel
