My Waitrose voucher scheme now live: Free newspapers still - at least for me

The new My Waitrose voucher scheme is now live.  I've received money off vouchers for my usual newspaper (equivalent to a free newspaper) for every day of the week, as well as some other personalised vouchers.  I don't know how long this will last or what proportion of members will get a similar offer.  I expect it will depend on how regular a newspaper buyer you were.

The new scheme is set up for use on your phone.  You open the voucher(s) on your phone and scan them with the barcode reader at the till.  You will need to be logged in to My Waitrose to do that.

I got  free newspaper vouchers for the next 7 days, but no other offers..Strange incentive logic, now tempted to pop in for a free paper and get everything else from Sainsburys…..

Have you logged in and selected vouchers?

I got an email that mentioned the newspaper offer but I had to got o the website, log in and choose the other vouchers. A lot of faff. The co-op does the same thing in their app which is a bit easier. Nectar/Sainsbury's just shows the offers in the app and applies automatically.

Yes and I don’t have any (apart from the newspaper ones on the corresponding tab).

That’s weird then. Maybe it’s a gradual roll-out and yours will appear next week?
  • Everywhere is going for 2 tier pricing with member prices and personal offers.

    Right mess.

I couldn't even find the personalised offers in my phone app.
Scanning the QR code takes me to the Waitrose web site, except I don't login to that on my phone (as I use the app).
    All a bit disjointed, imho.
So, I logged in to the web site and there's some vouchers with discounts off particular items, like 50p off bacon; I can use 2 of the six there.
Looking at the discounts, choosing the two, going there, basing my shop around buying those two items, seems a bit of a faff to me.
I don't think they're going to influence me to make the effort to specifically go to Waitrose; I typically get in the car and decide which shop to go to when I set off and/or what the traffic's like.
The only offers which make a difference for me are the ones with a discount off the total bill.

  • The 20% discounts works on reduced items if these vouchers also work it will make for some cheap food.
