Macbook stopped saving pdf's

Hi
Recently I was able to download and save pdf's on my mac book. Now I can open them but unable to save as it shows pdf's as an image. Tried print option and save but nothing happens. The download option I previously had has disappeared. When clicking on 3 dots I only have 2 page view, annotations and present and document properties. Previously had a download option under their which has now disappeared. There is an arrow which I click on and no options there.  Clicking on printer option, which is in the middle and save as pdf it starts saving but is stuck on that page.
How can I resolve this please.
Thanks
Luna

What application is opening the PDF document that you are then trying to save from?

Hi, I'm not sure on application as I am clicking on the pdf link on the web -  it shows up as I am viewing a shared or local file. Looks like it is saving to my downloads but when I look in downloads, nothing is saved in there.

When you've clicked one of the links and have the PDF open just look in the top left of the screen, you'll have the Apple logo and next to it the name of the application that you are currently using; its presumably Chrome. Unfortunately Chrome is too much of a memory hog for my tastes so cant say how it currently operates

MacOS is a *nix OS, just an earlier branch off unix than linux

The default behaviour varies between browsers, so on Firefox you have the option of it opening in Firefox or Preview (the system default PDF viewer) but yes, it'd normally go into the cache/temp to open and the user then has to SaveAs to put into downloads/documents etc

Unlike iOS web browsers can be built from the ground up on MacOS rather than being forced to use WebKit (think even for iOS that may have been changed now) and so behaviour can be very different between browsers.
