Tranfering a large amount of money

I have been left a large amount of money from my nan but she lived in Ireland. i now live in England. Does anyone know what the cheapest way of transfering the money to pounds.

Talk to your bank. I have to transfer money to S.Africa regularly (supporting a family there) and the transfer fee is £20, that's a flat fee regardless of how much is being transferred. You may also have the option to change the money to sterling from euros before transfer or on arrival, shouldn't make much difference but worth checking with them which they advise.
You say it's " a large sum of money", I'd ring them up let them know and ask what they can do for you-- while making it clear you will be talking to other institutions as well, for starters you'll want to make sure it's making a decent rate of interest until wanted, needed, reinvested. If they come up with a good offer give them the business if not someone else will be very happy to handle your inheritance and might work harder for it.
Have you had a lawyer involved in the inheritance? If so might be worth asking their advice and checking whether there are any tax implications or other issues to consider before moving the money here.
The actual transfer involves a relatively simple form which the bank can help you fill in.
