Why won't E-On Next perform credit checks?

We recently moved house last November 2021 which is on prepayment meters with E-On Next. They are refusing to run credit checks on us so that we can move to direct debit and a fixed tariff. Originally they said they hadn't finished setting up the credit check system since migrating everyone (which I can hardly believe!), then on 6th Dec, they could perform credit checks but only for new customers (even though we'd only moved in 3 weeks before). Now on 15th Feb, after many emails, they still don't have a date when they can credit check us. We were previously with E-On so it seems ludicrous they need to do it anyway. I think we are being held off getting a fixed tariff because of the energy price crisis. Nowhere else will accept new customers now, especially those on prepayment meters. We are stuck and for no good reason. Is there anything we can do?

What type of prepayment meter is it? If it's a smart prepayment meter then other companies will definitely accept you, certainly if you go on a fixed rate because it's easy to swap them over to credit mode.If you are on the older style, start asking for a smart meter instead0
