  • My daughter is living in Wales in a shared student only house so doesn’t pay council tax.  Her only income is her student loan.  It doesn’t mention any help for houses that don’t pay due to exemption on this basis, but this increased energy cost will have as large an impact on her as everyone else on low income?

The problem with the £150 payment is that it's arbitrarily based on Council tax bands A-D, so you have the crazy position of two professionals (neighbours of mine) ,a doctor and a dentist who will get £150 whilst two pensioners in a slightly bigger house ,will get zilch !!

Also the other thing is that the £150 payment will come after the planned Council tax increases, for example down here a Band D property Council Tax charge for the year will be increasing by £60.
  • What about people who get council tax reduction (benefit) yet will also pay elevated fuel costs? The council tax 'rebate' won't get passed down to the energy consumer because they are too 'low income' to pay their CT bill...

The council tax 'rebate' isn't for energy is it? Its for cost of living and to counter the the council tax rises.

Yup! I'm renting a two bed flat, for some reason it's classed as Band E. Can't afford to buy due to the stupid prices, so I'm hardly well off. Thanks govt...

Not bought your vote then. Sounds like a hastily conceived idea to look clever. Which politicians most certainly aren't. Not going to get the economy going either. Which is where the money should have been spent.
  • I am on Universal Credit with LCWARA.  Does anyone know if the £150 help paid through CY will be clawed back back Universal Credit/DWP?
  • I think people are mixing their drinks due to the announcements of the Energy loan and CT rabate being made at the same time.

The CT rebate is more general support for those struggling with rising costs. Be it CT, Water Rates, Fuel etc.

It was announced that there would be a seperate fund to help those like Students who do not pay CT currently, but if you do not currently pay CT then your already having support as CT is rising this year for all those who pay, so the £150 is going to be less £100 new money for those in band D properties once the CT rise takes affect.

Is there any news on how this will be paid to people in Wales?
