We are getting married at age 70...we both received old type single persons pension. Will getting married affect this and reduce our pensions to a married couples or will we both receive same ? I have 46 yrs accrued and my partner has 36 thanks all

reduce our pensions to a married couples

There isn't a married couples pension.

It was not infrequently the case that where  for example a wife did not qualify for a state pension (or only for a pension that was less than two thirds of a basic state pension), when her husband reached State Pension Age, she could apply  for the two thirds pension (or to top up her pension to two thirds).

Even then, each party  received his/her pension separately.

Where the spouses each qualified for the state pension in his/her own right, he/ she received the pension to which his/her contributions entitled him/her.

Therefore you will both continue to receive your entitlements as heretofore.

Thanks for your advice and answers, the reason I asked about this was because on the pension increase letter it stated you have to inform state pensions that you have got married am I right in assuming they need to know in case one of us dies the remaining partner may benefit from the others pension?

In certain circumstances, it  could be possible for a widow/widower to benefit  from the late spouse's  basic or additional pension.

This is why DWP asked to be advised of marriage.
