Number of comps

I keep hearing how all the social media means more available comps for us to enter.
However, on my FB memories 8 years ago I was exclaiming that 14/02 had 30 pages of comps. (My page default was 20 per page.) Yes, 30 pages and it wasn't even the end of the month!
And I certainly didn't have Instagram, barely Twitter and my FB was more for my real life friends. The above post had an audience called MSE who I put my comping friends into an MSE group.
Now I know I'm not being a nostalgic old biddy with rose coloured glasses!

I know it makes me sad, I’m sure the comps are out there but the search function on here makes things so complicated, and also I think a lot of compers, the newer ones (not all of course) don’t want to share.
I still love this group but it makes me sad too, I wouldn’t ever catch up, I could enter all day for weeks and not be caught up.back to comping after a 2 year break!! Mission… to win a gift for all my family for Christmas!0 -
I got really behind on comps recently. Two weeks behind. In the olden times it would have taken me several days to catch up. But it took me about 2 hours cause it was only 35-ish pages0

I've noticed the drop, the last couple of years in particular and now with the ongoing cost of living crisis, companies are cutting back on spending. The problem with competitions is that marketing is an easier cut than say, cutting jobs and they've all realised that they can get greater engagement if they do competitions on social media with a small prize than they could the traditional way. The advents must have been 80%+ of competitions being via social media, particularly Instagram. The radio and TV companies are still doing the big prizes but are now finding ways to minimise or avoid the requirement to provide a free entry route to curb who they would define as "freeloaders" and move them toward £2 a text entries. The forum changes have not helped matters either but were necessary because of how outdated and insecure the old software was.4
