Overcharged council tax?

Options
I am on the lowest council tax band which is supposed to be £1160 a year, but I'm being charged £142 a month (£1700 a year).

Does anyone know why this might be? I'm quite confused by this.

I have tried contacting the council but no response.

Without knowing which council, we can't begin to say.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

When did you move into your home and if after 1 April 2021, when did you start paying CT and are you a single occupier?
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

When did you move in to the property, and how many instalments does the council tax bill show ?

In the vast majority of cases, the instalment amounts are higher because a charge is being paid over a lower number of instalments.

What does your bill show about the total amount owing, how many months it is being paid over, and any arrears?
My council tax is paid over 10 months so the monthly amounts are higher but there’s 2 months with no payment and it balances out.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Our Council Tax Bill is split into several different parts - County, Town and Parish.  The Parish element is very localised - we pay substantially more than a village 3 miles away.  Have you taken ALL elements of your CT into consideration?

There are only 3 variations in Birmingham  City Band A is £1165 p a, New Frankley £1183, Sutton Coldfield £1198. Birmingham is a Unitary Authority.so there is no county involved
