How understanding management is varies from person to person, let alone company to company.  When I worked for DWP I had a very good department manager who had great people skills.  Another department weren't so fortunate with one example being their manager visiting one of their staff in hospital who was recovering from a mastectomy, asking when they would be back in the office as her absence was causing a backlog of work.
However the fact that the manager with people skills was 'managed out' and the other one was promoted probably says more about the overall attitude of higher management there.
That manager would no longer work in any business I had anything to do with. That is disgusting behavior.

OP - if asked at interview, mention your holidays. If offered, best to mention then. Not many employers will have issues with it due to the notice you are providing.
Perfect thank you for the advice! Tbh if they do say no I'd still take the job, I'd just have to pay my dad the money it cost because its already paid for and can't be cancelled and he wont be happy if I can't go 🙈 hopefully they're understanding though because it's a university graduation gift that had to be rearranged because of covid, and we booked it when I thought I'd be in uni still studying for a second degree (dropped out of my second degree due to anorexia and been on disability ever since but finally ready to work again!)
If they wont honour a holiday months down the line, think carefully about whether you actually want to work for them, they could potentially be arsey about absolutely everything. Just a thought.
  • Don’t mention it during the interview. It’s not relevant, really. Reasonable employers just want the best candidate in terms of skills, team fit and motivation. And managers don’t typically assume that the new hire just puts life on hold for the first few months on the job. Of course, everyone has plans.
The fact that someone is ready to work for 5 months straight w/o taking time off won’t make them look any better than you if you overall meet the role criteria best.

If you get the role. Once you start, wait a couple of weeks and bring it up with your manager in a matter-of-the-fact manner. ‘I’m thinking of taking a week off in June. Would that be ok? Could you please show me how I can book it on the system?’

    Good luck!!!

That's getting so much closer to the time of the holiday and it makes it sound like it doesn't really matter whether I have this particular time off or some other time.  And it's not a week but two weeks.

So, no, don't wait to ask till what could be less than a couple of months before the already planned holiday (depending on actual start date).  The OP already has a commitment and the more notice they can give their employer the better.  (But not necessarily at interview stage unless specifically asked.)

And good luck to @Nddlb2 for this week's interview.

Must be mentioned before starting and get it in writing it is ok.
Then get it in the system as soon as you start.

You don't want to end up like this poster.
