20/21 Assessment - still waiting

Options
I posted a few months ago saying that my PTA still shows that 20/21 still hasn't been calculated - but I cannot find the post to add to it. I find that I am still waiting and seek advice. Although I know that I am likely to owe tax from that year, hoped that it would have repaid before this April following a tax change. Firstly I assume most people have had tax codes sent for 22/23 but how can I haven't yet and wonder if the whole thing will finish in a mess. If I start the new year without a code how will my company pension provider tax me.
Anyone else in this position. I assumed it was because of Covid, it taking longer than normal. Or have I slipped through the net. Should I contact HMRC or be more patient?

I'm in the same boat (owed about £2.5k in overpaid tax in 20/21):
Your Income Tax has not been calculated yet for 6 April 2020 to 5 April 2021

There is no need for you to contact HMRC about this.
We aim to calculate your Income Tax by 5 April 2021.  Your Income Tax will be updated when that happens.
Perhaps they're hanging on to our cash for as long as possible?

  • Presumably they mean 5th April 2022 …. Or some other date?

Who knows?  - seems they're a law unto themselves.

Perhaps we should claim interest  :#

  • I'm in the same boat (have just started a new discussion on it).  Initially that holding page said they aimed to have calculated my tax by October 2021 - now it is saying April 2021 like yours!

Received in the post today my tax charge notice for 2020/2021

That would be exactly ten months since I sent a letter to HMRC informing them I had under paid tax for that year.

Dealing with ones own affairs online is far more efficient than sending a letter in the midsts of a pandemic.

Yes that may very well be true but to be honest I didn't mind one bit that I had to wait for ten months to pay my tax bill.
