Hi,
How much can someone claim per mile for traveling to rental property and return to home, also for the journey to buy goods for rental property etc? Is it 45p/mile?
Thanks,

You can't claim anything for driving from home to a rental property. If you were doing a building renovation and drove between the rental property and the building supplies company, I suppose you could claim 45p a mile for the first 10,000 miles, but that would be quite unlikely for a property that is let, unless you had several properties.1

bare in mind that the travel must be "wholly and exclusively for business purposes". So travelling to the property to do, eg, inspection/repairs/maintenance etc is ok but if you travel there & then have a couple of days holiday staying there that would not be an allowable claim1 -
Very interesting. It seems as if you can claim for trips from home to a rental property, so long as your trip is wholly for the purposes of going to the rental property (apart from an incidental stop off on the way), and you run your rental business from home (and don't have an agent).Andy_L said:https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/property-income-manual/pim2220
