I will be visiting Belfast and surrounding areas in June and looking for the best car rental company for about a week.

I know most get a bad press but what's the best of the bad bunch?

I have compare them but most of them have bad reviews.

Others have said they had to leave credit cards details etc with the companies.

In my experience you won't be able to hire a car without a credit card.

Just be careful with whoever you do end up renting with that you do a full check of the vehicle (take pictures of any scratches and damage and get this agreed) before you drive off.
Car hire firms love to charge you for every scratch or dent that wasn't on the original paperwork even if it was on the car when you got it. Probably part of the reason for the bad reviews.

Also consider purchasing separate excess insurance if needed rather than the one they will try to sell you to save money.
