Obtaining Title Deeds

Now I am mortgage free,I would like to obtain my title deeds.Been told you have to go to a solicitor.Can anyone advise.Guess you cannot obtain yourself.

    Strictly speaking there's no such thing as title deeds unless the title is unregistered.  If it is the lender should send you them.  If not it's easy to obtain a copy from the Land registry for £3.   However if you can lay your hands on the pre registration deeds and documents do so - unfortunately they tend to disappear nowadays.  Check with the last solicitor, if you remortgaged they could be with the firm who acted when you bought.  You may even have been sent them and not realised

    I built the house from new in 2008,had mortgage with nationwide.Who advised myself now that house is totally paid off to contact a solicitor for my deeds.

    By 2008 deeds were dematerialised.  Accordingly above remains valid.  Solicitor who acted may hold pre registration docs or may have destroyed them.  It's over ten years ago.

    A couple of years ago I received randomly through the post from the bank a large envelope with all the paperwork deeds they had on file dating right back to the 1940s and 1950s so interesting reading to say the least . I was told they were no longer keeping them and sent them to me .
