DRS via eBay

Hi There,

I wonder if you could give me advice. I had a Camera on eBay and whilst the auction was running I dropped the camera and smashed it. Naturally I couldn’t sell it, so cancelled the auction. I got a listing bill for £349. I haven’t paid this, as I don’t agree with it. I still never got to sell the camera.

now I am getting daily texts and emails from DRS. Wondering has anyone else had this and what should I do? Will they bring me to court? I am in Northern Ireland, so having to travel over to a court would be expensive. Do I ring them, ignore them?

Never had this before, and to be honest I can’t afford the £350

any advice would be much appreciated

EBay retain the debt, DRS will have been given the task of collecting the money from you.

No they won`t take legal action, as they do not own the debt.

£349 is a lot for a listing fee.

Did you haveca bid /bids on the camera?
The fee sounds high, was the auction ongoing when you cancelled it?

I did yes, was sitting around the £1500 mark I think
  • It’s actually £360.08 !!!

This is a question, not an accusation, born out of the fact that I use eBay quite a lot and hope this doesn't happen to me:

Did you cancel the auction properly through eBay's channels explaining why you were canceling it, or did you just not honor the auction and let it run?

If the former, this is quite concerning because as you say, you broke the camera and did the right thing.

Yea I cancelled it early through their system. So nobody won the auction. And eBay was not out any money
  • Sounds strange as this sounds like the final value fee after an (expensive) item has sold.

Although I would have thought it would be nearer to £150 for fees if bidding was around £1500 (10%) as think cameras would come under the 10% selling fee charge?
