I purchased £100 of clothes from River Island which were delivered by Hermes yesterday with photo proof.
I listed my doorstep as the safe location because I believed it to be safe. I live in a quiet area with almost no footfall, and knew I'd be home from work within an hour or two of the delivery time. When I arrived home the parcel wasn't there.
I paid for the items using Klarna. I have paid the first instalment of 3 from my HSBC current account.
River Island told me that they and Hermes have fulfilled all their obligations so there's nothing they can do, and to speak to my bank. Klarna said: Klarna do not have any insurance or other policy to protect you. But in this case you can contact your near by police station.
I have logged a complaint with the police online.
I know people reading this will say I shouldn't have arranged for it to be left at my front door, but this is still an available option on the Hermes dropdown menu, and ultimately how you determine a 'safe location' is subjective, and I genuinely believed it to be safe. I have also been a victim of crime. Obviously I regret the doorstep choice and won't be doing it again - I'm in temporary accommodation having been evicted and don't know anyone in the area, otherwise would have asked for it to go to a neighbour.
My question is, am I £100 out of pocket having paid for this thief to have a parcel of new clothes? Do I have any options?
Thank you.

Probably should be on the consumer rights board.
But as you gave Hermes permission to leave the parcel on your doorstep, River Island has delivered to the place you specified so yes the contract with them is fulfilled.
All you can do is see if the police are interested, or talk to your neighbours to see if they saw anything.0 -

Not sure if your home insurance will cover this as a safe place is not an open area outside your house"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"
